GCAL provides telephonic crisis intervention, clinical triage, and referral for Georgians in need 24/7/365.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death.
Strength for Catoosa is a county-wide Sources of Strength wellness and suicide prevention initiative spreading messages of hope and health.
Family Mental Health Promotion, Inc. (FMHP) recognizes families impact the individual; therefore, we aim to support the family by providing relationship coaching, communication classes, parenting classes, stress and depression management techniques, suicide prevention, childhood toxic stress prevention, and individual purpose finding. This support will also result in a reduction of substance use disorders.

Advice for Survivors

  • Even if you feel that you cannot survive, know that you can.
  • Feelings of shock, guilt, blame, anger, relief, depression, and isolation are common responses to grief. These emotions can be overwhelming but know that they are normal.
  • Each survivor grieves in his own way and at his own pace.
  • Seek out people who are willing to listen without judging.
  • Remember that many people are affected by suicide.
  • Seek professional help if needed.
  • Take care of yourself—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
  • This is the hardest thing you will ever do. Be patient and do not try to do it by yourself.
  • Remember, HEALING TAKES TIME.
